Sanhe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Sichuan Basin - south. The Sanhe Formation was erected by the Sichuan Aerial Survey Team in 1980. The section for the designation was measured along the highway from Sanheyang to Liujiachang of Yibin of Sichuan.
Lithology and Thickness
The Sanhe Formation is mainly represented by a set of brick-red thin- to thick-bedded clayey sandstone interbedded with brick-red and purple red mudstone. It is 693.7 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base of the formation is a conformable contact marked by the disappearance of massive sandstone and the appearance of a large set of mudstone is distinguished from the Wotoushan Fm. On regional stratigraphic columns, the next younger unit is the Daerdan Fm.
Upper contact
The top is a conformable contact marked by the appearance of a large set of quartz sandstone is distinguished from the Liujia Fm. On regional stratigraphic columns, the next younger unit is the Gaokanba Fm (followed by the Liujia Fm)
Regional extent
The formation mainly occurs in the line linking Leshan, Yibin, and Qijiang. It is persistent in lithology and is most developed in Liujiachang of Yibin, with a thickness up to 700 m and becomes thinner eastward and westward from Liujia, generally 300-380 m in thickness.
